Hi! Welcome to Brown Girls in Cyber!

My name is LaConti!  I'm thrilled to have you visiting my website!  Well, how did I get here? A year ago I was a middle school Reading Interventionist.   This journey started off with me...wait for it...starting to work towards National Board Certification in the area of Literacy.  Now, I am in cybersecurity!

So...how did that happen...great question!  I will be sharing my journey through this process as to how I went from National Boards to cybersecurity.

Where do you start?  Great question! Let's get into it!

When I was a Reading/English Language Arts teacher one of the things I loved to do was teach writing.  There was one strategy I used to teach descriptive writing and help students make their writing much more interesting.  That strategy was “Show, Don’t Tell.”  Guess what? The same is true in cyber security.  If you're looking to break into cyber security, one of the best ways to demonstrate your knowledge and skill is through a portfolio.

A portfolio can be as simple as a website that contains all of your work, or it can be a more complex platform with interactive elements that allows you to demonstrate your skills in different ways.

If you're just starting out, consider creating an online presence where you can share your work. This might include public repositories on Github or Sourceforge, or even a blog where you share articles about cyber security topics. If you have an existing website or blog, it may be sufficient for this purpose. Another avenue is to blog and upload videos using Google Sites (sound familiar) and Youtube.

Once you start getting more experience working on projects, consider creating a dynamic portfolio that includes videos demonstrating how certain tasks are completed and interactive quizzes for potential employers to test themselves on their knowledge of information security concepts. These kinds of tools are great ways to show off what makes you special!
